Abstractions in photography inevitably lead to the question, "What is that a picture of?". Photographs always have a physical referent in the real world (unlike paintings) and the play here is to intrigue the viewer with what that referent really is. On the other hand, it doesn't really matter, as the image should be appreciated for its own form and design, color and contrast. And of course, with the images in this gallery, you may never know what they are pictures of. |
